I want a better axle and brakes, is it possible with an 01 sporting ABS and a D35? Thanks

No, not directly.
The 8.25" shafts do not have the tone rings required by the ABS system.
There's a guy on NAXJA that did a homebrew 8.25" ABS using a tone ring on the carrier. I don't have a link so you'll need to do a search over there for it.

Since I am only running 30s and maybe 31s soon and don't do any rock crawling, Should I just rebuild the drums and keep the D35 then? Removing the ABS sounds like a PITA from what I have read.
