I'm looking to get a front bumper and 8000lbs winch. Right now I'm looking at the detours USA bumper because its affordable and is ready to accept a winch. But, I've been hearing that some bumpers aren't strong enough, or that they don't mount solidly enough to withstand the stress of the winch pulling, to were some have warped or even ripped part of the unibody. Since the detours usa bumper supposedly uses all stock mounting hardware, it makes me a little worried about winching with it, if the stories I'm hearing are true.

How much truth is there to this and what circumstances cause such destruction? is 8000lbs overkill? Are people ripping bumpers off with super strong winches? Do most people make more mounting holes and add more bolts ect... for strength?

ive been using my bumper and 8k winch for 4 years now and use it to pull everything, ive pulled out duallies that were buried and i had to strap myself to a tree so i wouldnt slide and it didn't bend or do anything. I think detours will be fine, if your worried you can always ask him, he's a vendor on here. You can also use stronger hardware or bigger bolts.

I don't think you will have any issues with a DETOURS bumper.

Ok, thanks for the info guys. Not sure, but I might go with a Logans metals front instead. Its not much more, and while the detours sounds like a great product, it looks too much like the stock bumper for my taste.

Are you talking about the backbone? Because that is the stock front bumper just with a cut out for the winch platform

Yep, that's the one. I didn't see another from bumber on the site. I really don't want to spend more than $400 on a front bumper, so its not like I have a huge selection.

For that you cut a section out of the stock bumper so it can slide over the detours assembly

I have a logans bumper with a 8000 lb winch and i love it! If you want more of a stock bumper look go with detours, from what Ive seen, that guy makes really nice stuff.
