Brakes feel weird
Im almost 17 and we just got my first car off craigslist (2000 jeep cherokee sport 4.5 lift) and the brakes feel weird compared to some other cars we own.You have to push the brakes 1-2 inches before you feel that the car is actually slowing down, but once you get passed the 1-2 inches the brakes feel strong. Is this common on lifted vehicles, or should I get it checked out? thanks!

Assuming master cylinders full and no apparent leaks sounds like rears might neeed adjusting they regulate pedal height assuming it has rear drums. Always support vechicles with jack stand b4 working under one...

I agree with freedgr, adjust the rear brakes. (Ignore what I said before if you saw it, I misread your description.)
Easiest way to adjust your rear brakes (If they have drums) is lift the wheels off the ground, and use a screw driver to turn the star wheel inside the backing plate. It should only turn one way and it should click as you turn it. Keep turning it until there is a slight drag in the wheel.
EDIT: Damn you Freegdr! You added that video before I posted.
