brakes for big tires

Rear discs, wj front brake upgrade, front dana 44 swap. Reid dana 30 to 44 knuckle swap. You have lots of options and they will all help.
I would stay away from the performance stock replacement pads and rotors, they may work a little better, but the money is better spent towards a more significant upgrade imo.

Far from bolt in. You can do rear discs on any axle, just have to do your homework.

first things first, is your current brake system 100% ?
I know we have different setups, but I can easily lock up my 31X10.5 tires with stock brakes. (I've done it a few times-Opps!)
I would hope that you could too.
If you can't are you at least getting some serious tire screech when HARD on the brakes? maybe look into doing a complete brake fluid flush, pads and rotors with adjusting the rear drum brakes.

On my 92 I did the Crown Vic swap on the D44 rear when I put it in. Along with the newer style dual-diaphragm booster and master cylinder and the ZJ proportioning valve. Made a huge difference in braking ability with the 33-12.5s

Has no one suggested a dual diaphragm brake booster?
I'd guess that increased my braking power by 75%. This is the first mod I do to any pre-96 XJ. I can stop 31/35's on a dime.
