Bought my first XJ, question about wheel and tire upgrade
Hey guys, I'm new here, this is my first XJ (99 Sport) I've ever owned so I'm not too knowledgeable about wheel or tire upgrades and whats needed.
Right now it has the stock steel wheels (15 x 7) and 235 / 75 / 15 Goodyear Wrangler tires.
I found a set of black 16" x 8" wheels I like and I was looking around at M/T tires and I was wondering if going from the stock 15" wheels with 235 / 75 tires to these 16" x 8" wheels with maybe a 285 / 75 / 16 M/T tire would be an issue? I think the wheels are a -6 offset, they are a black Raceline model, will have to try to double check that.
From a tire comparison calculator I found it looks like they would be about 3.95" larger overall in diameter and 1.97" more in width. I don't have any plans to do a lift at this time, just want a beefier look and the black wheels. Appreciate any advice on this!

You would have issues running them without a lift and for a base point the ideal wheel size for a 33x12:50x15" tire is a 15x8" with a 3 3/4 to 4" of BS on the wheel. With that size you would need a 3-4 1/2" lift with some fender trimming for full flexing of the suspension.
Foe a reference here is my 99 on that size tire and lift running a Cragar Soft Eight wheel 15x8" with 3 3/4" BS.

You need to read. This topic has been covered many many times. And there is a sticky in this forum that says "all lift and tire questions go here"
So do your research. But besides that Fred nailed it.
