Default Bored Throttle Body - 60mm vs 62mm

Wanting to get people's personal experiences with this. I'm deciding between a 60mm and a 62mm throttle body for my 95 4.0L. Engine is stock with 251,ooo miles on it. I have the stock header/downpipe, with a free-flow cat and flowmaster 40, with 2.5" piping (mandrel bent) all the way to the back. I also run either a stock intake box with a 3" dia. inlet pipe (cowl snorkle setup), or a 3" dia. short intake with cone filter. Basically I'm saying my intake and exhaust are free flowing.

Even with 251k + miles on the engine, it's still a beast in acceleration and power, partly thanks to my 5-speed. But in this ever evolving jeep build, i want more...so...

My question is, for those of you who have installed a bored TB of either size, what your response/feelings on the mod? Better acceleration / power / throttle response? Or not so much? Would the 62mm be better than the 60mm, or would I need internal engine mods to make it worthwhile? Would there be a penalty power wise for going over 60mm without internal mods?

No penalties for 62mm. Do you still have the downpipe with the "crush" in it?

yes, haven't found a good cost effective replacement for it yet - seems to perform fine at the moment

I have the 62 mm on my 92 with almost 200k on it. when i installed it i hav the K&N intake stock everything else with a cat back muffler and the throttle response was very noticable. I did not see any less MPG's unless i was rompin on it and it had a little more get up and go. I have one of the 60 mm on hte wifes tj and felt a lot of the same but it is much lighter than my xj and tire size is one inch smaller. I dont think there is much differance between the two but the money may be. I paied way more for the 62 then the 60 due to not knowing anyone that made them other than RE at the time. If i was to get another one it will be from xjflies again great work and not long to get it back very good to deal with.

I'm thinking about that 62mm throttle body too.

I think it would work great with the new 784 injectors I just installed, along with a cold air intake. That way I get more air into the engine with the atomized fuel for more power.

www.strokedjeep.com has the throttle bodies. COLD air intake? The factory is about the best there is.

I would either do some kind of snorkel solution, or something that removes the convoluted factory crumpled rubber in place of something more smooth.

I run one on both my YJ and XJ but I have a cold air intake, ceramic coated header, hi flow cat, and muffler...

I don't think it's a good upgrade unless you uncork the exhaust flow, air in air out.

Yeah, I would want to remove the factory kink in the pipe just near the front drive shaft, and I already have plans to install a new stainless steel header because mine's cracked.

How'd you do it?

I saw Harbor Freight has a nice pipe expander. Might be cheaper than having a shop cut and re-weld new pipe.

If you can get the intake and header ceramic coated when you change it out.. I am running a Stainless Banks on the YJ and a Stainless Gibson on the XJ, I found the Gibson on Craigslist new in the box for $200
