If you scroll down to the bottom, look at the direct fit applications, they have all the sizes and PN's available listed there.

The worn-out coils. This is not complicated. You want to blame Bilstein when the facts point to the other components.
It seems your previous cheap shocks lasted longer due to the fact that the coils weren't as worn yet.
Let's see how long the Monroes last.

Obviously, your shocks stop working correctly....................
But if you do a search on coil springs wearing out...the #1 cause is bad shocks/struts.......................

Gentleman,
I believe it is best that we respectfully agree to disagree at this point. We each clearly have our minds made up. I leave it to the reader to decide for him/herself as to the life-cycle of a stock XJ coil.

BTW, I have an 88 XJ with well over 350k on the clock (odo says 349k, and it's had bigger tires for over 300k of it's life, so I'm guessing around 375-380k in reality), and it still has the factory original coils springs up front, I did swap out the rear leafs for some off a 2001 cuz the 88's were in the negative arch region 5 yrs before I got it, a rusty's budget boost (1 3/4" spacers up front & longer shackles out back), and it has some shocks on it that I don't even remember who made them, probably monroe or gabriel, whatever I got from autozone at the time, I don't know ...............but it rides just fine - 10x better then my 96..........so I think your idea of worn out coil springs is kinda shakey........

well
summit says bilstein won't get involved. send the shocks back to them for another set or credit.
on a side note the monroes now have 2500 miles on them and are functioning great. honestly the best this jeep has ever ridden.

well my cheap vatozone shocks have 6k miles on them now. they are still the best riding shock i've used to date on this xj. i will undoubtably replace them samesies in 4k miles when my worn out front springs and horrible suspension geometry kill them...just like they did the bilsteins

Did you lengthen your bump stops when you had the 5100s? I have a 1.5" lift in front, and I had to extend mine past the factory stops to keep my 5100s from bottoming out on full flex and potholes. The 5100s for 2-3" lift have a ~.6" longer compressed length than stock shocks.
If your Autozone shocks were stock length and you had factory bump stops, that could explain why you have had a better experience with them than with the 5100s.

i did nothing. the bilsteins had a factory defect. they were not right. they rode and performed perfectly fine until they didn't, around 10k miles. 100% street only.

I have run over pot holes in St. Louis at 20-30MPH that have bounced a tire and completely compressed the suspension until the bumpstop was reached (on one side) with the swaybar attached. I sit at 4.5" up travel--1" more than stock. Trust me, it does happen, and it has happened to me once since I replaced my springs and shocks 2 months ago. I'm glad I set my bumpstops correctly after the swap, or my 5100s would have bottomed out and failed as well. Potholes with a sharp back edge will bounce a tire like a basketball--especially smaller tires at street pressures.
Tie a small zip tie around the shaft of your shocks to mark compression and drive around a city through construction zones for a while. I'd bet you will be surprised at what you see.
