Default Big lift, Front Drive Shaft Question

I have a 1988 Jeep comanche 4x4 np231 4.0 with a LP dana 30. bout to lift it put 8 inch lift long arms on it and 35s. It is a beach built purpose rig.

Question is I need some input from people that are runing 8 inches of lift with a lp dana 30.

What did you do for a drive shaft? What is the angle like? Is the stock one long enough?

Yes, was a 2wd converison. Its serious offroad crossmember. Notching the crossmember isnt a big deal if I got to do it. What do you mean by gc shaft?

Get your lift on and measure afterwards. GC= grand cherokee. There's a list of stock xj/zj driveshafts out there. Do a google search for "xj driveshaft lengths" and you'll have a good chunk of info. Not sure how that LP will do at those angles though.

thanks for the info. so what should I do if the angle is to steep? besides swapping in a high pinion....

Is there a special type of drive shaft that it made to cope with extreme angles?

I don't know a whole lot about drive shafts but I do know if you tilt the pinion up too far it will screw up your caster angle. As far as I know the only way to fix this is to re-weld the inner c's to the proper angle, which seems like a royal pain in the butt compared to swapping in a HP.

You're definitely going to need to point that pinion up... Way up. In the alignment guidelines driveshaft angle takes priority over caster angle.

You already have the best DS for this task, a double-cardan CV shaft. Going to need a loong one as mentioned.

So Im going to need to cut off the coil buckets and control arm mounts and relocate them? if thats the case that is really going to suck cause I just did this....

No you shorten adjustable control arms to adjust the caster/pinion angle.

Maybe. I'm just saying 8" lift is a massive pain in the *** with a low pinion axle. Not sure what the practical limit is but I've not seen a build that tall that didn't swap out to an HP.

I'd just go 6'', trim a lil, and run the 35s 8 is to much for anything unders 37s imo
