Best XJ Mods For Touring Under 10K
Hey CF, been looking around here for a while and have gained alot of knowledge about my XJ and how capable it can be with only a small amount of money spent on it.
I wish to start the modding of my 1999 XJ Sport Auto with the Part/Full time 4wd system (Not sure the TC number on that)
I would like it to be setup as a capable tourer so that i can go long(ish) distances over rugged terrain with confidence that i wont bend or break anything, and seeings as im a young driver, i also dont want anything too extreme.
I have decided i want 31's and i already have an ARB Bull Bar and ARB OME Heavy duty lift, so the minimum things i want to put on it are Terraflex Budget boost spacers, winch, snorkel and front and rear ARB Air Lockers.
I was hoping you guys could steer me in the right direction as what to put on my jeep, hopefully keeping the mods under $10000.
Any advice is much appreciated
Thanks
PS. I will also be starting a build thread for my Jeep once i commence the build

thanks, what sort of steering upgrade? hydraulic?
and for the skids, the fuel tank already seems to have a pretty substantial plate over it, is the OEM one fine?

Long haul wheeling trips dictate self sufficiency. You'll need to consider what damage might occur and build your rig to be strong and repairable with minimal assistance.
Alloy Shafts all the way around.
Selectable Lockers fore and aft.
LongArms
Replace those weak LCA brackets.
Box-in the passenger side UCA mount
Winch and Recovery Gear.
Skips and Armor....ditch the factory gas tank skid.
Dual batteries. Great for stick or spool gun welding.
Onboard air.
Puncture repair kit.
Stay away from hydraulic steering for simplicity sake.

Jesus christ, 10k to spend on upgrades... Here.. do this...
First buy this: http://claytonoffroad.com/product_in...roducts_id/348
Then these: http://www.seriousoffroadproducts.co...f52c3e5daf9e6d
Then these: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....wtpackage=true
THEN: http://www.seriousoffroadproducts.co...2-Bolt-Pattern
Then all these: http://www.quadratec.com/products/12...72222_8403.htm
http://www.quadratec.com/products/72026_700_07.htm
http://www.quadratec.com/products/72519_801.htm
THEN: Go with 4.10 gears, selectable lockers... Get a bored Throttle body, And invest in a roof rack. Youll thank me for all this later when you spend your 10k
Then: go with 1 ton steering, chromoly shafts, rear discs brakes also.

Thanks for the help guys, I only really want the budget boost as I already have a heavy duty ome lift and the rules on mods in Victoria, Australia where I live are pretty strict. And being a young driver on my probationary license, that sort of car would be cop bait.
Furthermore, the sort of trails I would feel capable of running would not need more than 31s or 32s, especially if I have dual lockers.
And I like the look of that fuel tank skid, how its nicely tucked up.
And would you guys recommend gutter mounted roof rack, or other type?
and what are your views on the spare tire being on the roof

Yea, gutter mounts..but at least 3 a side...no less. Go with either garvin, gobi, or even better. B. LEE in the vendors section has an incredible Trail Rack. It will hold ANYTHING you want it to. Ive seen em in person, know the guy personally, and the rack cannot be beaten.. Just have a look: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f10/b-...l-rack-125925/

In that case I would honestly buy new front OME coils (can be had cheap), and HD shackle relocation brackets along with some boomerang shackles. Youll need longer shocks.

You could just buy new 3 or 3.5 inch OME coils and sell your 2 inch coils.. That will give you the amount of lift the coils are made for. In the back your 2 inch leaf pack should be just fine, add relocation brackets and nice shackles and youll be SET.
