I wheeled my jeep HARD the other night. Level 4 trails with rocks the size of 50 gallon drums the whole way.
Drug my unibody over rocks so I need some stiffeners and plating. Scraped a qt pannel and bent my rockers. Needless to say, it was a blast.
My problem now is BOTH of my hp dana 30(locked) ujoints are shot. 2 of 4 caps on each have play in the u joints. These are brand new dura last gold u joints with only one wheeling trip on them. By the way it's a 99 axle so I got the 297x ujoints. What are the best ujoints I can buy for my front axle? I'm turning 35s by the way with 4.88 gears. I may be on the lookout for a wagy 44 if this keeps happening.
Thanks guys

the best ujoints money can buy are called RCV shafts
don't bother with it man save your money. are you running full circle snap rings? if you run full circle spicer 760's and start eating both of them in a single trip it's time to re-evaluate your driving style or start thinking D60 (since D44's have the same size ujoint as D30's)

yes ONLY if you have ABS shafts or any D30 shafts 95-01. but to run the full circle snap rings on junk yard shafts you'll have to grind out the ears. full circle rings are the key to success here. and the 760's seem to be strong enough to hold down the fort. it's a pretty stout setup on the cheap. or you can run alloy/chromos and the full circles will pop right in
I did a write up on it awhile back.

Best U-joint? CTM's. Hands down.
I run these. They're a little bit cheaper.

GIve it about a month or two still, and Revolution will have their new D30 front axles out. They are the only D30 TJ/XJ shaft kit that will have the JKD44 sized ujoints, which are larger than any shaft kit ujoints currently available.
He will also be releasing his JKD44 ujoints. When both his shafts and ujoints are bought and ran together, you get a 25yr warranty.
Check with me at later date(s) and I will give you updates, if you really want to upgrade and not waste 1100$ on RCV's. They should be about 1/2 that.

Nice to know . Psst 884x4 less throttle better lines= less breakage ......... lol
PS I know where 2 waggys are sitting and yes both still have the front axles !!

Good to know about the 44s, if I could get my 30 sold for a decent price(4.88s and powertrax) I would consider picking one up.
On another note, looks like my crappy duralast ball joints (brand new lol) got loose on the same ride.
Never want to have to change em again so I'm thinking alloy USA.
Any recommendations for ball joints guys?

It seems like the main problem you're having in this thread is that you didn't go with spicer in the first place
I did a climb that I watched 3 rigs back to back break lol, that's when I loosened the joints and smashed my rockers a bit, no real breakage though so the ol Cherokee showed em up!

so spicer it is lol
Spicer 760s. If you go to anything stronger and/or chromo shafts, you'll wish you were breaking u-joints again because a shaft or a joint is easier to change on the trail than a carrier or gearset.
