Default ford taurus fan install help

alrite, so i picked up my ford taurus fan from the JY a couple days ago and thought that i better figure it out before hand then afterward.

so my main questions are how to wire it, how to mount it, and should i worry about the studs on the pulley that the old fan clutch was bolted to interfering and hitting the fan

if anyone has done this and has any tips to tell me that would be great lol thanks!

What kind of jeep? As far as wiring goes hook it up to a 40amp relay and instead of hooking the relay up to a toggle hook it up to your switch 12v- that way it automatically comes on when your jeep comes on.

Everyone is quick to jump on the toggle switch band wagon. Screw the toggle switch:

This is at least $15.00 over priced, but you get the idea. Use the ground coming from the Temp switch, to pull the relay in. Relay switches the fan on.

Yes, use the ground on the relay to the temp switch on the radiator for turning on the relay. However, do not use a 40 amp relay and wiring. It will pull 50 amps on start up and cook those. I have done it. You need 50 amp rated stuff, just as Ford used on them.

That's a good idea, I just did mine for simplicity ha. You have fried 40 amp relays? I know the taurus fan draws 90 amps on startup but then it goes down to about 30 once it gets going, I have yet to fry a relay. But who knows maybe my relay is a 90 amp relay in disguise.....ha ha

It is not the realy so much as the wiring attached to it. I had some ready made plugs I was using on a fan that drew 28 amps constant. It got the connection hot and then got the pins on the relays hot enough to corrode them and make the contacts fail.

This is what runs my fans now. Notice how heavy the wiring is for the two on the right rated for 50 amps compared to the ones on the left rated for 40 amps. I have not had any trouble with the heavy duty ones. The only problem is you cannot buy them at at place like NAPA. I got them from an auto electric specialist.

Having that fan run all the time isn't good if you live in a climate where it gets cold.

X2. I don't understand why everyone has to "shortcut" everything. Do it right the 1st time.

Thanks JeepJunky. I just got this thing and I know they run hot so I just want to make sure I have everything working as it should. Thats where most of my money has gone this far in the build...or rebuild rather. New water pump, t-stat, fan clutch temp sensors and a cylinder head that was cracked. I will probably be replacing the radiator too just because I dont know the previous owners maint. regiments. Thanks for the help and sorry to get off topic

My wiring is complicated compared to most, but mine is fully automatic with the aux fan coming on with higher temps and functional AC. I don't have the fan relay operated by the ECM like you do.
