if you're seeing mud avoid BFG. other than that, pretty much any radial tire that has sipes to push mud out will work great. my current favorite is the MTR Kevlar. they run true to their size. every inch counts! remember it's really hard to judge how good a tire is without being locked/locked. because if you're locked front and rear and the tires still aren't grabbing that's saying something. which is my experience with BFG's in muddy situations. so if you're not happy with whatever tires you end up with, get lockers

cooper stt are great tires at reasonable prices, good in lots of diff. terrain.

Another vote for the MTR's. I have 33's on my XJ at 4" and love them. If you want to trim more than I have, you can fit 35's.
