First mod depends on your budget and what you need your xj for.

This! Budget and need are the number one priorities when it comes to modding. Tell us more what you use your jeep for, then we can recommend more useful mods for you.

Have a good baseline to start with...
x2 make sure everything is up to par and then customize. I have yet to get to the customize stage / disable ignition key buzz so you can hear fuel pump

I guess if your jeep runs rough and you need injectors might as well. Op needs to provide more info. But that's more maintenance.

My thinking goes like this: if you're gonna wheel, you're gonna get stuck (if you're doing it right! ) First mod should be to get yourself unstuck if you're not in a group. Second, what mods will help you keep from getting stuck? Third would be comfort stuff...subjective, I know. Along those same lines could be tools to take wheeling or mods to take tools like a rack or a shelf in the back or bumpers for a tire carrier, etc... The snowball will just get larger the further you think about it.

Uniframe stiffeners. Doesn't matter if it's a street queen or a wheeling rig, stiffeners make a HUGE difference.

That's true. Obviously just my opinion. I have THOR quarters BTW. As I use the jeep mods become necessary and that's what dictates my next purchase.

I think the majority idea is that its considered an upgrade just because of its superior design... 4 small ports vs one large... It should provide a better spray pattern for better combustion.. In theory

Besides the idle and acceleration improvements.. My jeep started cranking quicker... Almost immediately firing off.

Recovery points is an obvious first. After that, my vote is electrical. Upgrade all main wires, grounds, and a better alternator. Great starting point for all sorts of doo-dads
