Default Best Brake Pads/Rotors

We're heading to Colorado in the next few weeks and I would like to not worry about my brakes fading on long descents. I'm running stock rotors and pads from carquest. Last time I was out there I had to ride the brakes coming down steep trails because my auto doesn't hold it back slow enough, and my brakes would get hot and start getting soft. Needless to say that isn't very comforting when your 2000 feet above tree line.

All I can really find is powerslot rotors and hawk brake pads as far as aftermarket parts are concerned. Has anyone ever used these, or know of good parts?

I'm not worried about spending money on this......being able to stop is really more important than being able to go when you think about it. Any input would be appreciated. But I won't have time for a rear disc brake conversion, though.

I've used both Powerslot and Hawk products on my autocross cars and I think both are great. Hawk brake pads are probably the best I've used. If they hold up to an hour straight of track abuse, I'd say they'd do just as well on a XJ. I'll probably do the same combo when it's time for new brakes on my rig.

Cool, thanks for the input. Where do you buy brakes from for your autocross cars? It looks like buybrakes.com is the cheapest I've found so far.

*** Now I found that autopartswarehouse is even cheaper by $40 ($160 shipped) on the rotors and about $5 cheaper ($88 shipped) on the pads.

remember your rotor are the same ones in a wrangler, same with the calipers, and pads. right now i am running a set of wrangler rotors with wrangler pads on the stock XJ calipers.

My friend works for a distributor so I get a substantial discount. Check them out. Im not sure how their prices compare in the retail market or if they even sell to the general public. Motovicity.com

Make sure u change out, flush, the brake fluid to. Brake fluid absorbs moisture and when the fluid heats up, it will boil, and cause a soft pedal also.
