Engine Light - Miss Fire - Would like some Help
Ok, Inspection is up on my 01 XJ as of the begining of this month (5/1/12). I can't seem to get my check engine light to shut off & i can 't get a new inspection till it is off (gotta love NYS government). My mechanic (good frined of mine) & I have been working on my XJ all year on & off and haven't been able to shut the damb thing off!
Changed plugs, wires, checked all O2 sencers, etc.... Any ideas as to what else I can try. When we clear the codes I drive it like 50 miles & the Fricken thing comes back on .
I bought it and put $6K into it so far, then the light comes on & I can't get it to shut off! It's gonna drive me to drink (more than I do now)!
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance..........
** Moderators, I put this in the incorrect section, please move to OEM Cherokee Tech.... Thanks

maybe the coil pack is going bad? i used to have mis-fire issue too. what i found out was when i replaced the spark plug it was slightly on crooked and causing the mis fire. i got rid of the mis fire code now i have another code po441. i just replace the purg valve hopefully this solve the problem or im going nuts too lol. btw mine is a 2001 too and we do have emission test in illinois

You said checked o2's, does this mean they are still on? They seem to be such a common issue with this problem. But, good that it's going on a code reader. That will hopefully give you a direction.
Other thought might be the TPS, IAC valve, MAP sensor, vacuum leak clock spring- it grounds the TPS. Or possibly a fuel delivery issue. Does it backfire at manifold?

Thanks for everything, my friend found out that I had a broken line that (hope I get this right) that goes to the charcoal canister. Once he fixed that, he cleared the codes & it hasn't come back on as of yet. Passed inspection, all is good, now gotta get my sue put in so I can get my driveshaft that I already paid for.
Thanks again
Thanks again
