beadlocks?
Hey guys I have a set of bassett bead locks on my jeep and I need to take the rings off to paint them. Can i just jack the tire off the ground and remove the ring without popping the bead?
|
the inner bead will stay on, but the outer bead won't, because, well its a beadlock, and that ring holds the bead in place.
To get them back on you will have to put the tire on flat ground (or i like using a 5 gallon bucket) then torque the bolts down in the proper sequence to the proper torque as many times as the manufacturer of the wheels reccomends. some people like using new bolts every time, but depending on the size of the bolts, the number used, and condition i find it ok to reuse them in some instances. |
just let all the air out of the tire first. lol.

I just took the rings off without doing anything and the beads are all good.
|
are they real beadlocks?
the ring you took off clamps down on the outer bead, without it, the bead wont be held. |

Yes they are real. I run about 8 psi when i go to the trails.
They aren't by chance mounted like a regular wheel are they? When you pulled the ring could you see the inner bead of the tire? |

The pic is the spare rim i have.

So the bead rests around that raised lip whereit bolts down? If im seeing it correctly i kinda like that feature.

Still don't see how you could remove the rings without the tire moving unless they are mounted like a regular rim, I've seen it done by shops that don't know what they are and how to mount them.

i have the same rims, they're allied beadlocks.
the outter bead sits against the rim and the lock ring bolts up to that pinching the tire in the bead ring. yeah, the lock ring has like a built in bead. but the tire should just come off that outter lip. i don't understand what you are saying... |
