Default bds or Clayton?

Currently i have a 3" rc short arm.
Going to be doing an axle swap (just locked and geared)
And since ill be upgrading I'm moving up to 4.5"
Would i be alright with short arms until funds allow long arms?
What coil springs would be better?
BDS? Clayton?

I don't have experience with Clayton, but my BDS are working great.

you don't really need to spend that much on coils. unless you have a good understanding of spring rate and know specifically what you want, I'd just go with the fair priced RE 4.5" coils from serious or whatever is close to that price
I'd spend it all on the leaf springs though. coils not so much

I like the cost of the 3.5" 7 pack that IRO has. But i have leaf springs that will work for now...
My problem is the money involved in getting long arms.

At a certain point the long arms will ride better.

I LOVE my BDS coils. Very flexy, and ride great. With my 3" lift and OEM arms in OEM locations I can unseat and walk away with a coil spring.

If it was just a trail rig i wouldn't care about comfort, but this is my daily and i sometimes drive 10 hours plus. Like the trip i just took to get my axles.

shocks will play a much bigger roll in ride quality

Generally speaking, xj lift springs are xj lift springs, they will all flex the same, as much as the rest of your suspension allows. Only when you get into stupid tall springs do you have to start worrying about flex.

Ride on the other hand can be debated. I have run a few different spring rate coils with no noticable difference in ride quality however. Shocks and control arm choice have a greater influence on ride quality.

No, not correct.
There are are quite a few differences.
Spring rates and diameter of the steel will go a long way toward determining ride quality both on and off road.

If you're going to piece together a lift, do your homework.

well i couldnt tell the difference between 150 lb/inch and 240 lb/inch with my setup, once you start getting into the jeepspeed stuff i can tell, but all "kit" coil springs have been comparable. every jeep with a linked front end on the trail always flexes to the bumpstops and droops as much as the rest of the suspension allows as well. its pretty difficult to make these things not flex lol.

leaf springs on the other hand, I notice major differences.
