hi im new too this but i have a 1989 jeep Cherokee Limited and my radio will turn off but not all the way when i brake, and the battery gauge drops to probably 5v what dose this mean?

Sounds like a bad chassis ground. Hopefully cruiser will chime in with a link to all his tips for this era jeep since he has put so much work into it. But here is a link you can check out.

sounds like a multitude of things. bad grounds, Low idle and a weak alternator not putting out enough volts to keep your electrical system above 12.7 volts at the given low idle. Do the tips on cruisers website, clean up your grounds, load test your alternator and make sure your idle is set correctly.
