Bad throw out bearing????
I engaged my clutch yesterday and heard a very loud screeching noise. Sound was only there when clutch was engaged. I was about 100 feet from my house so I decided to try to make it home. There is a speed bump right by me so I reengaged my clutch to slow down to go over the bump and I felt the clutch pedal give completely out. There was no absolutely no pressure, nothing at all in the pedal. So was about to get it back into 1st and continue home then just had to shut it off once I was home. I believe it was the throw out bearing but before tearing everything down and buying parts I would like some suggestions.

Most likely, you're right. I guess inspect the clutch master and slave (hopefully this is a later model trans) but it sounds like you're probably on the market for a new throwout bearing at the least. I would just replace the clutch while you're in there. How many miles are on it? I had one go out on me with just 144k but I also have another one (knock on wood) with 190k and it's fine ish (judders when the humidity is high)

The TO bearing probably locked up, and now it's ruined the pressure plate and the fork (does an XJ have a "fork" ???).
I did that on an old Suburban that we used to have. |
