Its not pleasant, definitely go and rent a ball joint separator from auto-zone or whatever parts store you have around you. They charge around a 200$ deposit but return your money when you bring it back. there are videos on you tube on how to do it.

I'm thinkin' my ball joints are gonna be getting replace very soon. And any thing else I find wore out under my jeep. I haven't done ball joints since the late 80's when I was working in a truck-implement shop.
wish me luck...and good luck to you OP. It shouldn't be a nitemare if you rent the tool.

Unpleasant is a kind word to use. It probably is not all that bad, but you always one that won't go in. An hour would be a dream come true. It took me all day..(murphy's law) I had one that just would not go in. But.... you can do it.

Yes it is quite a pain in the *** to do for the first time. You need to ether go "rent" the tool or find a local shop like the one I work at to pop out the old ones and pop in new ones. We only charge a cpl bucks a ball joint. Or if you have a harbor freight store around you they have a cheap tool that would work well.
