Default Axle Swap (Cry. 8.25) or HD Axles???

My 2001 XJ has the dreaded D35 rear axle. My friend has an 8.25 out of his XJ and I could pick it up cheap, real cheap. Would it be better to run a stock 8.25 or upgrade my D35 with the Superior Axles & Detroit Locker?
http://www.quadratec.com/products/16120_151.htm
I already have 6.75" of lift and am running 33" BFG's. I did have a bit of a mishalf with my wrangler years back when I BLEW UP my Rear axle (D35) when I was wheeling with some friends.

Any thoughts? I assume (except for the larger "U" bolts) it would be a basic swap. This 2001 XJ is my 5th jeep and am attempting on building this one up correctly but (but) on the cheap...... Already have way tooo much into this rig.. Wife may get upset if she only knew how much $,$$$.$$ I had into it......

x2 Unless it's a 97 and newer one keep looking. Don't waste any money on the 35. Housing is the weakest link with it then the shafts. I bent a tube on mine and snapped an alloy shaft pulling onto my trailer.

Brakes would change on the 8.25, as they are not ABS capable. 97+ 8.25 are 29 spline and worthy of being bought and used. I bought a 96- 8.25, but I plan on locking and chaning shafts in it anyways. Plus I picked it up for 50 bucks.

If you want to cross the border I have a Comanche Dana44 to possibly work a deal on lol (found an XJ 44 bolt-in ready, but I already have the MJ 44 and a 97+ 8.25 to replace my 35..)

Simple swap on the breaks? This will be my first axle swap. My friends (who helped with the lift) have done it before & are Mechanics.

It's out of a 98 XJ 2 door my buddy cut up.... ?no good? Why?

Thanks for the info, it's gotten me a bit further. What changed on the 8.25 after 97? If I swap to the 8.25 I'd like to throw in a D. Locker or something. Would love ARB's but WOW $$$$.

Sounds like you're already set in the axle department!

The 1997 and newer C/8.25 has 29 spline axle shafts. The 1996 and earlier C/8.25s have 27 spline shafts, so the 1998 you have has the stronger shafts.

I'm running a C/8.25 with a Detroit locker and 1541H 29 spline shafts, and it is a great axle set up for running my 35x12.5 r15s.

Default Front Axle Swap Now

Looking for More Help,
I do have a 2001 XJ with Anti Lock Brakes. I picked up a High Pinion Dana 30 today and started tearing it down. I have a couple questions (and have searched here & on Google already).
1) Can I just pull the fuse on the anti lock brakes? If so, does anyone know what fuse i need to pull? AND, Has anyone else done this?
2) I am looking for a scematic (drawing) of the High Pinion Dana 30 parts break down, all i can find is a drawing of the Low Pinion
3) I am thinking about doing the Grand Cherokee front Disk Swap, what parts do I need & can I use the same axles and such? I don't want to replace everything on the front axle.
4) If i do the Grand Cherokee swap, what is the actual diameter of the disk? Some said that I'd have to run 16" rims, I have also heard that aftermarket 15" rims will work. At this moment I am running new 15" rims and 33" BFG's.

Any Help would be appreciated.

I pulled all the ABS lines completely out, then pulled the relay under the hood. It's labeled. A year later and no problems whatsoever, and no CEL.
