Axle swap ?
Hey guys,
I know this has been covered a million times, but I searched and did not have the best luck finding the answer. Sorry in advance if this sounds stupid.
It is time to redo my diffs. I want to swap the rear out to a d44 or c8.25. What mods are neede if I get a stock cherokee unit? I know it will bolt in, but do the ujoints or driveshaft need to be modified in any way?
Thanks for the help
Brendan

They both bolt in. If you already hav a c8.25 your drive shaft will fit with the d44. If you have the d35 its n inch to short

Thanks for the help. I currently have a d35 so I guess I will need to get a drive shaft from a 8.25.
Thanks

I have looked for the 8.25. They seem pretty tough to find. I have had a lot better luck with the 44's. I will just have to see what I can turn up.
Thanks

An 8.25 is definitely not hard to find. They are on like 95% of Cherokees i see. Do you mean, "I have a lot better luck with the 35's"?? An 8.25 is definitely what you want though, should be able to find one for less then $150 and it's plenty strong up to 35s.

No I wouldn't put 35"s on the '92 (27 spline) its been compared to the d35, but then again it depends on what you use the jeep for... streets, dirt road, a little snow you would be fine on 35"s, but if you ever put a locker in it or tried some hard trails or deep mud it would be a whole nother ball game!
