Axle swap
Ok, there is a guy selling a Dana 44 near me, complete with an ARB, 3.55 (my current gears), and disk brakes, but it came out of a YJ. Does anyone know how hard it would be to bolt up to an XJ? probably just need a spring over kit? how about the driveshaft?

Just buy springs perches and shock mounts, you will need a shorter driveshaft

What was it out of originally? YJs never came with a D44 so width and bolt pattern may be off.

obviously, so it's possible an xj44 was used.
it could also be an early bronco axle. you would have to see what the bolt pattern is. |

i think it's a myth. besides, we're talking about a rear axle, are we not? |

Don't know what it's out of, all I know is he had it bolted to a YJ.
I'd love to have an XJ 44 for a price I could afford that would bolt right in, but I have yet to find one. |
Only South American XJs had a front d44 option. Some, but not all, 86-88 XJs with the factory tow package came with rear 44s as did a large number of MJs. Regardless of what it came out of it should have the right bolt pattern and width. All you'll need to change out is the mounts. Just make sure it's not a D44a out of ZJ.

oh i've got a couple of rear xj44's and had passed on a few mj44's only because they are spring under. i know i can just weld on new perches, but figured i'd let someone else scoop them up.
i was figuring the op was referring to the rear axle. no yj up here in canada came factory with a 44, front or rear. i'd like to see one of these south america front 44 to see if they're like the rubicon 44/30 hybrid. |
If you cant get a 44 just get a 97+ c 8.25 easy to find and alot cheaper to get
