Default Axle strength

im sure this has been asked a million times but im a scout guy and just got my first jeep. its a 2000 cherokee sport and im wondering if the chrysler 8.25 and d30 can handle 35's with a gear change cause right now it has 3.55's. any help would be great thanks!

They can, assuming you don't drive it like you're in a KOH race. I'd upgrade your front shafts.

im just so used to d44 that can handle practically anything. i dont wanna break anything. itll handle 33's fine though right?

if you're not going to lock them 35's will be fine if you lock them I would upgrade to chromoly shafts

D44 and D30 share the same size ujoints... just run full circle snap rings and gears and you'll do very well on 35's. if you're constantly breaking D30 parts on 35's then you need to reassess your driving style. drive somewhat smart and you will have very few issues

I'd say it's much easier to break when running an open front. you're using the skinny pedal to make it up obstacles you would've crawled if you had a locker. I've only seen open D30 ujoints break (both on 33's)

I ran locked on 35s for a while with a d30. Just need to know when to get out of the throttle. And be easy with the gas while turned. That tends to grenade more u joints than anything
