Default Axle Shaft Swap

Hey guys
So I sheared off the bolts on my axle shaft that connect to the rim itself; long story short I'm going to jy today. What will work? Is there anything I should look for specifically or just a swap from a 97 to 01? Any help is appreciated!
Thanks

Good details there.

I assume you mean the rear axle?

Why don't you just replace the studs? They cost 2 bucks...

Pull the shaft, beat the studs out, beat new studs in and bolt it all back together.

Ok, You mean the front axle.

The wheel studs aren't on the axle shaft in the front. The wheel studs are on the unit bearing in the front...

Why not just get a new one?

It would suck to do all that work only to have the one thats been sitting in a JY in unknown condition go bad after a short while.

You can replace the wheel studs in the unit bearing too...

But if you MUST replace the entire unit bearing you will need:

Box end 12pt. 13mm wrench.
36mm socket and a big *** pull bar or ratchet.
A big hammer.
A socket set.
A lot of patience.
A Jack.
6 beers.

Here's what ya do:

Jack up Jeep
Remove wheel
Remove Caliper
Remove Caliper bracket
Remove brake rotor
(Here's what I do to break the spindle nut loose but you can do it however, but good luck)
Remove center cap from wheel.
Put wheel back on.
Tighten two lug nuts.
Take Jeep off of jack and put weight back on the wheel.
Break spindle nut loose with wheel on.
Jack Jeep back up.
Remove the wheel again
On the back side of the knuckle there's 3 star headed bolts.
Use the 12pt 13mm box end wrench to remove these bolts.

(This is the fun part)

Grab the big *** hammer.
Take one of the star headed bolts and thread it back into the bearing a time or two.
(You're going to trash this bolt so I hope you're not mental attached to it.)

Beat on this bolt until it starts to move.
Move the same bolt to a different hole and beat on it until you break the hub free.

Remove shaft and go pay for bearing. Then do it all over on your Jeep when you get home.

Now, you could do all that **** or you could just replace the 2 dollar wheel studs you broke out....

Or buy another one...

Awesome so I'm thinking I will replace the wheel studs themselves.
So remove the unit bearing entirely and just replace the studs as necessary?
Thanks so much guys saving my broke *** money means the world at times.

By the way broke off 3 of the 5, so I'm thinking there are other issues as well. Might the lug nuts I used be wrong? Is there a special type?

You MIGHT be able to replace them without completely removing the bearing. I've never done it that way.

You'll have to remove the brake components either way.

I'd certainly suggest removing a complete stud and taking it with you to the parts store when you go to get the new studs.

Mine is a 99
So here's my plan, car is At my work so I'd like to do this efficiently as possible.
What can I use to remove the studs without taking off unit bearing? And will I need to have them pressed back in or is there something else I can do?
