Default Axle Paint.

I am looking to get some new upper and lower control arms for my XJ. I have new coil springs to put under it, but I have to wait for the control arms.

I figure that while replacing all of the above, i might as well clean up and paint the axle. I have done a bit of searching but rather get more input so im 100% sure what i need to get.

-Any tips for cleaning?
-Any tips on what to paint/what to avoid?
-Which paint is best?
-Is primer needed?

Thanks for any info.

I just hosed it down, sanded the really rough spots, hit it with some degreaser, rustoleum rusty metal primer, and rustoleum semi gloss black. I figgured it was pretty much just for looks, shock mounts / spring perches are the only things that rust off.

if your worried about corrosion, just insure that your engine is always leaking something on it; oil, tranny fluid, ect, almost anything except antifreeze and brake fluid will keep it shiny and rust free
