Axle decision? 4.56 d30 & d44 or 4.10 8.8 & 30
I have an 84 parts four banger with 4.56 gears in a D30 & Wagoneer 44. I also found an 4.10 8.8 w disc breaks for 150 bucks. Just gotta buy a gear set for my locked D30 to match. I'm running a 6 inch lift with 35's. How much tougher is the 8.8?

the 8.8 has larger shafts than the 44 by a tad. either should work for 35s though. i would save the money and buy some chromo shafts for the 30 so it can keep up with the 35s. thats just me cuz im allways broke and looking for the best bang for my buck. but if you have deep pockets i would go with the 8.8 and big boy shafts for the 30. especially cuz its locked

while we are on the subject...
Are there any 4.10 gear kits for a Dana 30/35? If so, where can you buy them at and how hard is it to swap them out?
I will be putting 33" tires on in the fall and I believe my stock gear ratio is 3.55 I want to keep it as close to stock performance as possible as far a gas mileage is concerned.
Found this but it says it is for a TJ

Found this and I think it is the right one for the rear

What do they mean by reverse ring and pinion set for the front axle? Would this one be the correct set for the front?

Is there a whole lot of difference between the 4.10 and 4.11 gears? I saw both on this site.
I forgot to ask, is this all you change is the ring and pinion to correct the tire to gear ratio issues?

but, keep in mind that the 8.8 is NOT bolt in. all the perches on the 8.8 will have to be cut off and new shock mounts and perches will need to be welded on to fit the jeep.

you dont need to tear it open. see the "cone" or pinion and that one is mounted up high and one is mounted down low. you can just look at yours and see.

Do I even need to worry about changing the gears out running 33's? That will be the largest tire I ever run anyway.

What gear set up is in the Chrysler axle? It appears to be either 3.55 or 3.73 from info I have found. No advantage there if that is the case other than gaining a 1/4" diameter on the axle.
