axle bushing alternatives?
I've got a 91 XJ and my axle bushings in the front are toast and I've heard how hard it is to replace those things. I've been looking around and have found different things but nothing that seems like what would be the best. If I'm going to go through all the p.i.t.a of replacing them I want to replace them with something that is good not just another stock replacement. Any brilliant suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I'm tired of listening to the clunking sound of those worn out bushings

Which bushing you talking about, the control arm bushings? The uppers a pain ish... Plan to have at least one power tool(air impact or electric impact) makes it quicker and easier(just did this literally a hour ago lol) smartest move is to just disconnect the axle, like shocks, track bar, and steering linkage. If not, it's going to be a more pain trying to tilt the axle when realigning it up.

Don't get your panties in a bunch and get all defensive, I'm just saying for a true video, it would help to let a novice know about those bolts as any beginner wouldn't know what to do with them as they probably would have thought it would be a simple bolt and nut set up. Not that weird clip bolt lol I know there is a tool and method to hold them but my experience, vise grips work to hold them still

ok let me start off by saying there's nothing about this jeep that I can't figure out how to fix myself that's not really the question.I appreciate the help but I'm trying to find out if there's a significant upgrade or maybe flex joint or something else I can put in the place of those solid rubber bushings that would be a better substitute and possibly a rebuildable the Jeep is a 91 so I bought it for cheap and I put a lot of time and effort into bringing it back to its previous glory its got 3&a half inch lift and I just replaced both upper and lower control arms with X flex adjustables that's when I noticed those two bushings for shot and if I'm going to go through the headache of replacing them I want to replace them with something good

I just replaced my axle bushing with mostly hand tools. The old one came out pretty easy with a punch and hammer. I first installed a Currie flex joint designed for the XJ axle bushing, was a little clunky so i yanked it and put a stock one in. Used a ball joint press (which you can rent or borrow from NAPA) and it worked slick. Nowhere near the pain everybody figured it would be. Google it and watch some videos on You Tube, thats what I did

Rubicon Express makes a hard joint/johnny joint for the front axle bushings.
Bushing replacement is easy using certain techniques. The most involved part is what it takes to drop the axle down.
Drill a few holes through the rubber around the sleeve. The sleeve and rubber will fall out. Use a punch and hammer to collapse the 'can'. It also will easily come out.
The best and easiest way to install them is with a ball joint press, rented for free (deposit) from Advance Auto.

Looked for info on here (CF),
This is from Detours "rolling felony" thread. I believe this is only for the 3 link setup. Not sure if you can use them in the passenger side mount
Rock Krawler 3 link upper control arm link
Sorry link/picture didn't copy on IPhone app

I know it is an old thread but these will go in and are rebuildable from iron rock at $42 each.
HD Axle CA bushing
If you want to weld tabs on, go with metalcloak Duramax (use their TJ kit).
