Default AW4 electronic shifting

Has anyone done the electronic shifting MOD to their AW4 trans? I have been looking into it. I found a few diagrams on Pirate 4x4 but they are a little hard to understand. Any info would help. Thanks

I found an awesome write up on NAXJA that I am going to follow. He orders the Baja shifter from rad but I think I'm going with push buttons and an LED read out. The wiring begins...

Its confusing at times. But has great questions that are answered. And also lists what needs done with detail

So instead of ordering the shifter you are going to make one yourself out of buttons? Sounds like what I want to do for a woods buggy.

yeah it wont use a lever. either push button with relays or a DPDT on-off-on switch. I havent gotten everything figured out yet.

I was also thinking of having 4 buttons mounted so that you push one and the others pop back in. like on an old blender. then just having them labled one-four.

Here's CobraMarty's diagram I wired up in the 95 turbo Cherokee using the stock shifter, a DPDT switch, 2 relays, and 2 diodes.

That's a nice diagram. I'll see what I want to do. I was thinking of trying to find an old racing arcade machine that has the box shifter. See if I can't make that work.

I'm going to use the diagram from Pirate using two switches. on-on-on for 1-2-3. and an on-of to control power going to the on-on-on to control 4, even though I'll never need it. Also going to use a switch to go from tcm control to manual.

I did a variant of this on mine. I wanted to be able to lockout first gear when slowing. This is especially annoying in 4L. I found that I have enough control of the gears using the existing shift lever and the lockout switch.

I used a relay just because I am paranoid about switches. There isn't much current here so you could probably get away using just the switch.

I set it up so that the lockout only works if I am in the 1-2 position.

The hardest part was getting physical access to the TCU, it was a bugger to reach.

Since mine is a post 97, the 'check engine' light comes on. It goes out after about 5 starts. Small price to pay.

I really like it for long steep descents in 4L. I hated the fact that it would pop into first gear if I slowed for a turn. I go out of my way to not ride my brakes under these conditions.

my whole thing is that i want to be able to switch from stock to manual. the write up on NAXJA shows the guy using a trailer plug with a switch to go from manual to auto. pretty nice set up

and yeah my TCU is right under the passenger side dash. easy easy easy
