Automatic to 5 speed swap
Okay, I'm new here and please don't hound me for making a new thread, but I want to know what is needed for the swap.. I know it would be easier to just buy a Jeep that comes with a 5 speed but this one has sentimental value to me, I can get a donor xj for parts without issue but I would like to know what I'm up against first. It's a 96 xj 4 door

No idea, presumably one removes the cable with the shifter and the problem is resolved There are a lot of good threads on this subject with complete parts lists and pictures

You need to remove the cable from the shifter and somehow keep it pushed forward,
It is a good idea to fix it in that position with a tiewrap or something like that in order to make sure that the vibration will not allow the cable to move back and block the key.
Or finding out the way to remove the cable from the steering column and make sure the key mechanism is in the correct position, "not blocked" and make sure it will stay that way
