If i recall correctly, peugot was used in the older jeeps, like wranglers and such. There were issues common to these trannys, i think it had to do with the gears chipping or something. This was a while back. My buddy had a Peugot in his 88 wrangler, and swapped in an AX-15, so if there is room, it should be fine, but if you are changing from auto to stick, why would you want a tranny that old with that many miles?

i'm pretty sure there is a difference in the spline count.
also, being that old, there will be differences in the harness and possibly the crank sensor mount.
is your jeep a 2wd?

that tranny wouldnt be worth it anyway, its a 2wd tranny and if you ever wanted it to be 4wd again you would need to change the uotput shaft on it and that is some serious money and time

the peugot tranny is junk.... I'm also not sure what all you have to change computer wise to use a 5 speed in an automatic xj.

yup, keep lookin
why do you want to do a 5spd swap anyways? auto is better for wheeling...
however, it's not as easy as just swapping trannys. you will have to swap out the flywheel and install a pilot bearing as well as an external slave and clutch pedal. you will also have to open up the floor for the shifter. and don't forget you will need a new driveshafts too.
and i'm not sure, but the shift rod in the column may become an issue so you can remove your key.
best would be to find a donor jeep with 4wd and the tranny you want. make sure to get an external slave unit too. this way the outputs should match right up.
read, read and read everything there is to read about the swap before you start. last thing you want is to get frustrated and abandon the project.
cheers.

most 2dr cherokee's are stick. start there.
look for a donor jeep. don't matter if your's is a 4 door, you can still use everything from a 2 door.
you will need almost half the jeep. tranny, transfer case, front axle, both drive shafts and crossmember.
you may also need the part of floor where the shifter is, brackets for the 4wd shifter, all linkages, clutch and brake pedals, flywheel, crank sensor, and probably more that i forgot about.
