Default Aussie vs. Spartan

Which lunchbox is better in a 29 spline 8.25 as far as durability and drivebility for an XJ with 33's for a DD and summer offroading?

Just wondered, found a spartan shipped for $275 and an aussie for about the same. Just want to put one in and not have to worry about failures anytime soon.

Spartans are slightly easier to install and have heavier springs and pins.
I have Spartans front and rear, have had no problems with them.

Either will do. The Spartan is suppose to be easier to install and comes with a new cross pin so you get more bang for your buck. I have an Aussie locker in the front and rear of mine and haven't had any issues. You really can't go wrong with either one though.

If I could only afford one, I should go with the rear correct? Or should I go front so I can climb better??

This is the great debate hahaha.

I say rear first, as its more usefull all around. But many will tell you front. The way I look at it is, if the front axel would be more usefull why does every manufature put lockers or LSDs in the rear. Open diffs will climb a lot but once you lose traction in the rear there wont be enough weight up front to pull you

Ultimately, its your choice. Im a front locker guy, Toxin's a rear locker guy. For the most recent front vs rear debate visit this thread and enjoy: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/lock-not-lock-186227/

Yeah were not doing that again. Hahaha, most shouldnt argue with this though, some like front, some like rear, everyone loves dual lockers. Overall if you can get that extra 200 bucks, just lock both

Do neither. Open diffs till you can afford both. Problem solved.

I did front first and locked the rear a few weeks later. You cant go wrong with either though.

Also there is some debate on installing a new hardened cross pin with the aussie. I say do it sense your already in there and then you have a spare.
