Anything worth using from my 88 for my 97?
I have aquired a beefed up 88 model cherokee that had a wiring issue that killed it. My roommate and i decided to try to swap in a new wiring harness but after some time we kinda gave up.
So now my fellow friends ive decided to take whatever i can get from it and put it on my 97 before doing a full partout. So my question is, is there even anything worth using from an 88 cherokee? Was anything beefier then as opposed to now? I know with time car makers improve their designs but in some seldom cases older is better. Thanks for the help and you can find pics in build 2 in my sig. Im on my iphone and cant figure out how to post any from it.

If the 88 came with a D44, then i'd swap that bad boy over. That's the only thing i liked about the older XJs. Maybe part out the 88 and get some dinero.

I have an 87. Mine came with a HP non disco dana 30 also. Not sure on the 88 but that is a much better front axle also. Other than the axles I can't think of anything.

Im goin to keep as much as possible off of it and then part it out in stages. 1 will be interior. 2 will be engine/ trans and under hood stuff. 3 body stuff and lastly 4 will be the suspension so i can move it if needed.
Anyways i did get some pics of everything and noticed something with the rear shock setup that might make you guys laugh lol. Anyways im gonna try to post these from my iphone so hang on.

Its not working!!! I put them in photobucket as always and the problem is that i cant direct link them because it doesnt give me the option. Oh well, i did however jot down the numbers on the rear end. I also noticed its been into before which leads me to think we may have a locker on our hands! (fingers crossed) but! That could also mean it was welded solid and judging by the backwoods engineering everywhere else on it, it wouldnt surprise me. Heres my numbers
8953005193. 55. 60538.
Dana 42968. 097. 8. Rev L. 02-24-87 rear.
Then there was also these numbers were stamped in the casting around the edges of the housing
35c 8147
I know part of that is the date but thats the only part i could decode. The first set of numbers was on the little tab hanging off. The second Set was in the cover and the last set was in the edge of the housing.

Wow! That thing is super ghetto!
I wouldn't let my worst enemy drive that thing.
You have a Dana 35 in the rear and a Disco Dana 30 in the front.
The "drop brackets" and "Upper shock mounts" are AWESOME!

But also judging from everything else its prob just welded. either way thanks for the info
