I pull a couple different trailers with my Cherokee and am considering adding a backup camera for ease of hooking them up. Does anybody here have one? I've briefly looked online and they seem pretty affordable.

I have a hard time backing up empty boat trailers.
Most difficult was a small wood splitter.
Looking out the back there's nothing there it seems.
The cameras that mount to the license plate seem like they would suffice.

Haven't pulled a trailer with the Cherokee, so take this advice for what it cost you. When I need to back the Cherokee into a tight spot, I open the rear hatch. Gives you all kinds of visibility. Might give that a shot, it's free.

I've been considering one that I can mount high up on the hatch....like above the glass so I can see everything behind the jeep, not just behind the middle of it.

Reason being, a few years ago while out hunting, I backed up and saw nothing, but heard the small tree scrape the hatch.....just inside the pass side tail-light....doubt a license plate camera would have caught that one.

What does the dash screen look like and where would it be mounted?

Those were some of the models I was looking at. I think they would get the job done and be discrete.

I wish I could, but both of my trailers have the jacks and other things too far forward on the tongue so I can't hook them up with an open hatch. It does give great visibility backing up to other things though.

That's a good idea. I imagine it being very beneficial to off roading in general and creative maneuvering.

That's one the things I'm hoping to find out in this thread.

This is the route I will be going. Simple and clean yet functional.

I prefer to have steering wheels under hitch.

you would look funny pushing a travel trailer down the interstate. lol.

but i agree, having a front mounted hitch makes life a lot easier to position said travel trailer into a tight spot.

but with that said, i've been a shunt driver for 10 years. i can back up any size trailer very well, as long as the mirrors are wide enough to see down the side. i have had to parallel park many 53 foot van trailers and a few 57 footers also. i've got more miles in reverse in a big rig than i do forward.

That's how my grand-dad use to launch & recover his boat with the winnebago camper they drove on vacation, and it was also pretty handy around the house for the same thing.
