Anyone upgraded exhaust to 2.5"?

I'm looking to upgrade from stock. I don't want to lose any rear end torque though. I prefer my tires to bark than have a good quarter mile.

So i have a few questions.
1) What EXACTLY is a cat-back system?
2) If i buy one, it's going to be a dynomax cat-back, which i'm assuming is a high flowing cat/muffler system. Anyone tried it?
3) I've heard if you don't have 2.5" from the header all the way down, it doesn't really help.

Basically i'm going to have 2.25" to the cat, then from the cat have 2.5" to the muffler all the way. Has anyone else done this and how'd you feel about it, for performance and sound quality? I don't like a loud truck...just a well tuned one.

lol, it's not rear end torque, it's bottom end torque

it is new exhaust everything BEHIND that catalytic converter

not me, not personally... I have 2.5" from the header to the cat, then a flowmaster 40 and a turn down

3) I've heard if you don't have 2.5" from the header all the way down, it doesn't really help.

almost anything will help compared to the restrictive stock system

haha that all makes sense...so cat back does NOT include the cat....cat back has a stock muffle in there somewhere?

recommendations on a higher flowing cat with good sound added to a dynomax anyone???

Cat back, means everything behind the cat. If you get a 2.5 system it's not a stock muffler it's a 2.5 in/out muffler. Mine is on a UPS truck somewhere so I can't talk about any personal experiences. More of something is not always better so research research research.

might be a stock muffler, might be something else

they sell high low cats on ebay, but honestly the stock one is not bad

I got a rustys 2.5inch cat back system and a flowmaster 40. Sounds great, not too loud but a prefetch rumble. Installed it my self with basic hand tools In a couple of minutes. (but I'm in cali so no rust!) Cheap too. Look it up on rustysoffroad.com.

Thanks for input but i'm looking for someone with a dynomax's input, i want to know how they look that sound, i already have a flowmaster super 44, i'm not looking for that sound. Im glad you like the 2.5" and it's easy, though.

I was rather disappointed with my Dynomax cat back system. It's definitely lower end exhaust. It was barely louder than stock with a slight grumble at ~1500 rpms. It also started to rust out on me very quickly. BUT dynomax was offering a $75 rebate and Summit Racing had it on sale, so i got the exhaust for about $50 bucks shipped to my door. Can't beat that.

Well this time im not on a $50 budget lol. I will pay for better quality sound. Maybe they're $50 now for a reason :p. But if i find a deal for a better flowing cat and the muffler ill get it for sure. Gonna give summit a call tomorrow. Thanks for letting me know!

How does it sound reving up though, or when you floor it into overdrive? Can you compare it to any other exhausts you've had?

Mine had a dynomax turbo muffler on it and it sounded exactly like stock. Mine also rusted out in less two years and I don't live in an area that gets salted roads. I swapped it out for a 40, it's a little louder but throttle response has improved greatly. I'll never buy another product from dynomax. Local muffler shop said they see them a lot covered in rust when I took mine in.

haha i definitely like the super 44 better.

Has anyone tried a cherry bomb?? i have someone offering me one for $50 with a 2.5" opening and outlet for a mustang. he has it painted for the heat and turn downs. not sure on the sound though. i dont want something that sounds like its farting.
