You see it a lot with wranglers, I think it looks pretty good

It'll look awkward on an XJ because of the size of the engine bay.

google search jeep cherokee comp cut. looks good on a low wide xj with huge tires. with 35's an smaller.. might look kinda funny

Not to be the a**hole of the thread, but I just Googled that exact thing for you. The first four XJ's that showed up in images, are exactly what you're asking for. Comp cut isn't strictly for the rear.

Yea i went out and looked, i didnt realize the engine bay sat so low

No, it's a trimmed fender. A comp cut is a cut to rear quarter panels that can't be replaced like the front fenders can. Comp cut always refers to the rear.
