Alternative to Hood Vents to Reduce Heat?
I have read a variety of threads concerning pros and cons of installing hood vents to help reduce heat under hood. If one wanted to reduce heat under hood and not install hood vents (and not raise rear of hood with spacers), then:
What would be the pros / cons of cutting 2" - 4" (some size as appropriate) hole in the upper area of the side (one side or both sides) of the engine bay, thereby adding ventilation into the wheel well area? Small electric fans could even be mounted over the holes to help "push" the hotter air out.
Your thoughts?

I don't know how effective the fans would be. It couldn't hurt, I guess. Although with the air flowing in from the grill, it'll naturally go out through the holes you cut, and even when you're idling, heat rises, so I guess the fans would just help a little bit. I cut two squares in the middle of my hood then mounted some grilling sheets under the hood and it cooled my engine down drastically. With the new fan shroud and hood vents, my temp stays at like 150 or so, whereas it'd be straight up at 212.

Hood vents work well, I don't have issues with snow or ice and what rain we do get doesn't affect the the engine. The vents let a ton of heat out of the engine compartment, you can see the heat vapors rise when you are stopped.
The vents are not meant to lower the engine temp, just the heat under the hood.

what are these so called cons of hood vents? and long as the vents are huge allowing substancial amounts of water or snow in you shouldnt have any issues with them, iv been running mine for just over 6 months now without a single issue. considering you can fab them up for little to nothing there the best bang for you buck without comprimising your engine or jeep at all.

Remove the rubber weatherstrip where the hood meets the cowl. It leaves a "vent" for heat to escape across the entire width of the hood without altering the appearance of the vehicle, takes 2 minutes and its free.
