Im looking to up grade my exhaust. Possibly do a cat back set up. I hear the FM 40's work well with the XJ, but what is a decent high flow cat that wont break the bank. What/Where is a good place to shop for exhaust?

I'm needing an online free manual for 1996 Jeep Cherokee Classic, 2 wd, 4.0l. Anyone know where I can find on? Thanks

I recently did a cat-back on mine. For the high flow cat and the muffler, pipe, etc. it was like $265 all in from Amazon. I did all the work and saved some cash with the install. Here are some links:

MagnaFlow Cat MagnaFlow Cat

DynoMax Muffler DynoMax Muffler

I noticed an immediate increase in power and am currently getting about 19.5 MPG city. That is an increase from approximately 17 MPG before the new exhaust. Sounds killer, too.

YMMV

What high flow cats do ya'll have that don't throw check engine lights? I crushed the cat on my 99 pretty bad and it feels gutless now, figured it's probably falling apart and clogging up. It also appears factory so I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to replace anyway.

The one in my sig never threw a code at all, works and sounds fantastic. I am very happy. Figure I gained a few HP as well but I have no basis for proving that.

I know it was a while back talking about cats, but my Cherokee is 2.25" downpipe to a resonator and it steps up to 2.5" with a 2.5" inlet on the cat and a 2.25" outlet. Not sure if my Cherokee is weird or what the deal is.

That's exactly what it's supposed to be, I'm pretty sure. It's what my 98 had.

ATP Challenge Y header flange is too thick to seal the intake properly, the bolt and washers are tight on the header flange but not contacting the intake. I've though about possible shimming, grinding the mounting points of the flange or sandwiching the intake port areas of a new gasket onto another to fill the gap, any experience or recommendations?

I personally would grind the header before using some sort of spaced

Huh... never knew they put resonators on them. I'd ditch it, personally, but that's just me. Ditched the front resonator on the Chrysler 300m we had and the noise level didn't hardly change.

It doesn't really bother me, and I don't gain or lose anything by leaving it there. If I ever get around to doing a full 2.5" exhaust it'll be gone. The front pipe for the Comanche came off of a 93 cherokee and it had 2.25 pipe all the way to the cat. It seems they changed the stock exhaust quite a few times.

Have this walker cat and i have a flowmaster (44 or 40 idk) muffler that I want to use with it. Was thinking of cutting off the 2 bolt flange from the walker cat and using a reducer to step from the 2.25 diameter of the cat to the 2.5 diameter of the muffler inlet. Would that work?

Seems like either option would probably work. I'd be very inclined to find a muffler shop that would glue it all together for a decent price. Took my Cherokee to a muffler shop and they redid from just before the crossmember to the muffler for $45 welding in an o2 bung
