Stainless vs. OEM (aluminized steel, btw) is no difference in sound. The stainless will simply last longer in rust-prone areas. Not worth the cost unless you're looking for rust resistance, or you want something shiny under your jeep.
"Quietist" muffler for our Jeeps that I'm aware of is the Walker quiet flow muffler. You can purchase it from Rock Auto.

Been driving the jeep despite it having the header turn orange. It idles perfectly, it has no check engine light, there is no overheating, and there are only a couple of parts of the header that turn orange. Maybe the wrap that I used in conjunction with the close proximity of some of the pipes on the header are causing it to heat more than normal? I can still take the time to test the injectors, but I have had no issues so far

It's quite possible that the header wrap is containing the heat rather evacuating it. The main reason for header wraps is to reduce the amount of radiant heat under the hood, thereby protecting components under the hood. I've read plenty of accounts of header wraps causing premature cracking of headers, which is why they're primarily used on race applications where, you're more than likely going to be replacing them often anyway, or on bikes where your leg rides close enough to it that intermittent contact could result in a very painful burn.

lol.... up to you. Sucks that the money was wasted if so... but normally they don't glow unless it's one of 3 things,
1-restriction in the system somewhere - performance would decrease if so
2-vacuum leak - idle would be high
3-running lean - performance would decrease in higher RPMs due to fuel starvation.

For a mostly stock exhaust (just a generic high-flow muffler), is this catalytic converter "good enough"? Any reason to NOT get a high-flow cat (vs a stock replacement type one)?? I am mostly doing it for a louder exhaust note - not expecting any performance improvement

If you have emissions testing requirements in your area (Denver, where I believe there is some requirement?) you might consider staying with a quality name brand part. I am a bit cautious on some of the low priced stuff on that site. Likely comes from China with unknown quality and functionality. If I saw the price correctly that seems too good to be true.

Someone probably replaced it then. Supposed to be 2.25" from the factory... at least that's what XJs come with anyway. Couldn't imagin why MJs would be any different especially seeing as 1/3rd of them came with the 2.8 v6

High flow Catalytic converter
Hello All,
I just purchased a Banks Monster Cat-back exhaust system (2-1/2") for my 1996 Cherokee (Country). I've been looking for a stainless HIGH FLOW catalytic converter on line, but all the search turns up are what appears to be standard converters. Am I being ignorant here? I don't want to choke down my flow by using a direct OEM replacement. Any suggestions? I live in South Carolina, no emission testing here!

I have a Spectre intake, a bored throttle body, 4 hole injectors, high voltage coil, and 8mm wires. Trying to open the exhaust to 2-1/2" seems a stock converter with the Banks Monster exhaust would be counterproductive!

So I recently just acquired a 98 2 door cherokee with a 2.5 and a 5spd. Needs head gasket but I traded it for a 3/8 harbor freight socket wrench and sockets. Person was a younger kid and basically deleted the exhaust and made it just a straight pipe. I'm looking to see if anyone has a diagram for the cherokee exhaust system from manifold to bumper. Thank you

[QUOTE=Martlor13;3489195]you traded a $30 set of tools for a jeep? Dang hahah[/QUOT
yep. Kid said it was smoking bad and didn't want to fix it. Parents wanted it out of yard. Granted it was a 2 1/2hr drive but I used company truck and trailer haha.
