[QUOTE=yarom;1643716]Hello, I am just starting a lift project on a really nice 98 XJ limited that fell into my lap. The vehicle is not destined for rock crawling and disconnects, rather for trail worthiness in the context of volunteer search and rescue activity I am involved in.

After reading for hours, here and elsewhere, and going over hundreds of lift stories and detailed reports, I decided to get the following:
Rubicon Express RE6025 3.5" Super-Ride w/rear springs - (great discount @ 4WD)
Bilstein 5100 shocks all around
RE Steering stabilizer
31-10.5R15 tires (BFG ATs)

I have several questions I cannot find a definite answers for and hoping someone with experience could set me straight. I've never done this type of project before...

What is the likelihood a SYE would be required after the lift and does it by default also require a CV mod?

II have a 90 xj with 5.5" lift and had 31/10.50/15s on my stock 1990 xj rims, they only rubbed a little on the lower control arms, I just adjusted the steering stop a little and no rub. Now I got 35/12.50/15 on my stock xj rims and no rub except a little in the rear on the leafs, but im puttin spacerson and theyll clear. But you should be able to buy that same tires for a 16" rim as well. An for a sye, it all depends on the jeep. Some dont, some do need it. The newer models are more likely to need it from what everyone says.

I have two Cherokees. Both '99s. One two door 5 speed and the other my woods is 4 door auto. My 2 door is lifted 3 inches and only had about an inch of spline engagement and my DS fell out once. My 4 door is on 4-4.5 inches and i just had to get a shorter DS for it after I redid the leafs and put 4° shims in. I got off lucky though and swapped the two and now I have around 3-4 inches of engagement on both with about 1.5 inches of up travel on the out put shaft.

It varies for everyone. And you might be able to get a longer DS and it may work. Ill probably do the Hack n tap next year.

Idk if your kit comes with extended brake lines but you'll need those too. But there's ways to get by cheaply and effectively.

Yes you can but its gonna rub on the lower control arms at full lock. I did it for a long time. With the swaybar discoed the tires would catch the edge of the fender at full stuff with stock bumpstops but its not bad

Treadwright wardens or guard dogs? I need a long lasting tire. Trail ride/mud occasionally. Some snow in the winter. I heard that the guard dogs last longer than the wardens. And that they come with deeper tread than advertised. Any input.

I would go with anything but re-treads, I just can't trust those things.

Why!??? I mean gave you ever ran them!? Read around on the forum. Look at how great reviews fellow members have given them! Retreads have come a very long way. On top of that Tread Wright has amazing customer service.

Im giving them a go if i can get a hold of a set of 16" wheels. So i say give it a go. And it just depends on what you plan on doing mainly. All terrains are great for a DD of over 50 miles a day or so but will kill you in the mud. I'm getting the guard dogs b/c they're going on my woods jeep them if I'm pleased ill get the wardens for my DD.

Nobody, but I just don't think there is any way they are as safe or durable as new production tires, aren't all the shredded truck tires on the interstate re-treads?

You guys obviously haven't researched treadwright. And a semi truck tire is different. Lots of recaps are blown out because of improper care and not enough air in the tires. Through all of my research, I have found nothing but good things about treadwright and their tires. The only bad things I hear are from people who haven't used them.

Personally, I plan to get Firestone Destination M/Ts or another set of Duratracs for the Comanche. I loved my DTs, and I've never read a bad review about the Destination M/Ts. As for the two you asked about, I've read more good reviews about the Guard Dog than the Warden. No personal experience, though.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with retreads from Treadwright.

Many different factors. Most obviously, your Jeep will never weigh the same as a loaded semi trailer. Treadwright used to have customer service issues, but they fixed all their problems years ago. No, I haven't bought from them, but I did a lot or research when I was tire shopping. The tires are fine.
