Either 30" or 31" tires would work. You can measure from the center of the wheel to the bottom of the fender flairs and front should be 17.5" and rear 17" if the fenders have never been trimmed and that will tell you how much lift.

you should look in to something like the BFG AT or general grabber AT2 in a 31/10.50/15 the all terain tire will be better on the road but still have nice off road manner

If this is proper spot to ask a question on rear leaf springs, great.....if not feel free to delete and accept my apologies. Love reading all the info provided on this site, but just maybe to old to learn this posting stuff.

Son and I are sharing time building "our" XJ. Have a 4.5" RE lift (short arm) and probably screwed up by getting the AAL instead of the full leaf package. Question is: Ride is harsh in the rear and the stiffness seems to be limiting the flex. Also, the rear is a little lower, could use another inch of lift. It appears that its about $350 to get a set of springs. Should I go back to RE, or just shop the web for a "deal"? Are the AAL that bad? Would the complete spring package give noticeable more flex? Also, had just saved enough $$ to start on SYE and driveline, but know the driveline measurement may change if the new springs add some height. The springs will delay the purchase of the SYE, what should I prioritize????

All right time for my first question on this thread

any one got a wright up on putting to geather an AAL, i got mine from rustys and there is no directions on how to put it to geather i beleve its suposed to go as the second leaf but the center hole is not centered so one side is longer than the other witch side does the long side go on front or back? any good wright ups out there ?

im getting a 95 jeep cherokee 4x4 4dr and it needs new tires and i was wondering what the largest tire i can get without any sort of lift at all? also any suggestions on tires? something fairly inexspensive but pretty meaty..

30" tires would be the absolute biggest you can fit at stock height. They could rub a little at flex or full turn. Might be better off with a 29" tire.

Hi all,
I just bought my 98 Classic and have been reading up various lift options. It looks like I have to go with a 3" lift if I want to fit 31"s easily. I have a friend at Pepboys and they offer some inexpensive 3" lifts for under $200. A few questions:
1. How does a 3" lift affect stability on the road (rollover possibility)
2. Do shackles affect the ride quality?
3. Does anyone have any experience with any of the budget lifts offered by pepboys?

I tried to post the link to the kits offered, but it just sends you to the parts search on the Pepboys site.
They have a 3" from skyjacker and ProComp, but they don't have much info on either kit.

I'm new to lifts, so any input would be appreciated. I don't plan on doing much off-roading, but I prefer the look of the lift and larger tires. I want to spend as little as possible to safely go with 31"s

That link goes to a search box nothing more. 3" of lift won't affect stability at all and will handle 31's without issue. If you want a good deal for a good price roughcountry.com call em and talk to Jason. Get their 3" kit and some shocks and new leaf packs so it's more stable in the rear. THen you are golden.

alright so i have a 2 inch budget boost with some 31s (got it that way) and am not a fan of the tire rub i am getting... i have been looking at rough country 3 inch lifts and want to put one on and keep the 2 inch budget boost. i dont want to have to mess with an adjustable trac bar or anything. i plan on putting in this lift and a tc lowering kit to help out the drivelines. is this a good idea or should i look at a lift with the control arms and stuff?

Good deal glad to help. I looked up the lift kits they listed on that site and the Rough Country is by far better then those listed at Pep Boys IMHO.

so i got the 3" lift done now there is a noise/ vib at about 30-40 mph will a t-case drop cure this?
