Lol ok man, I'm very intimidated hahaha.

Don't start a conversation by intimating that my idea is stupid. The rest of you post was fine.

Have a nice weekend tough guy!

BTW I never stated it was stupid, just that it didn't make sense.

Enjoy your week.

And one last thing, there turbo...if you don't want a difference of opinion, maybe you should change the title of your thread...

Permission to enter back into camp folks?

May I please share that I have been considering this option with an objective mind and remembered that this had already been tried back in the late 60's early 70's. There was a trend during that time where everyone just had to have what they called a "Ram Air" scoop built and installed along the underside of the front bumper.

While it did slightly increase the intake pressure at speed, this advantage was cancelled out by another unfortunate physical principle... Temperature. They found that they were wasting their time and there was no benefit because the air coming off the heated asphalt was 10 degrees more than if the intake was mounted in a higher location away from this asphalt heated air.

This is why they moved away from this idea and started mounting hood scoops and then to what we have now standard on almost everything... "cold air" intakes at a higher location on the car body like above the radiator under the leading lip of the hood, above the front grill, or through the fender well.

Anywhere in a "higher" location to draw cooler air from outside the engine compartment and further away from this heated air down by the road surface. I can't see any advantage to drawing this hotter air down by the road surface. Mine had a square removable plate directly in front of the factory intake on the filter box that if removed, allows cold air from in front of the engine compartment to come in through the grill area.

Just pull this plate and add a short piece of thin flexible tubing of some sort like a plastic water bottle with the top and bottom cut out and you will now have a cold air intake. Simple but effective, it made a world of difference with mine and I gained a couple miles to the gallon just removing this plate. You just might be disappointed in realizing how much more junk is going to end up in your filter box if you do it this way and the hotter air down by the road surface might be a mistake...

There is a huge difference in temp between 12" off the road and 36" or more off the road. It has been tried already...

Okay well... you're the "*******" that asked for opinions.

And FYI, pissing off the mods is a bad way to try to stick around here. Check your attitude at the door. That was a pretty dick thing to do. Roni was VERY respectfully giving you honest advice (trust me, for him, that's EXTREMELY respectful) and you reacted that way. I wouldn't expect any help from him in the future.

Best of luck on your future endeavors.

Wow, I leave for a few days and come back to this?

Ok, I'm going to be real civil about this as I possibly can.

1)You asked for opinions and ideas and got them.
2)You didn't like someone's opinion so you edited a quote to make them look like a real jerk, even though they gave you some good advice so you have a backup plan, just incase you didn't like your idea.

So, with the following stated, yes we allow some free thought and easy speech here. BUT that doesn't mean anyone can come here and start mouthing off like they're "on the block" or "in the hood". We don't mind a little ribbing but you took it a little too far with those quotes. The Staff was chosen from a line of members who know and talk to a majority of other members daily. They are as laid back as can be because of this. So you have to push really hard to set one of them off here.

Now, if you're looking for respect, you found a way never to get it. It's earned, never given. So after the "vacation", you are more than welcome to post again. Just don't come in all guns blazing, that doesnt fly here like fakebook pages or other forums.

I realize I'm a bit late to this party but just in case anyone is still following. I did this mod and posted a while back with only the purpose of freeing up the space occupied by the air box and wasn't looking for any performance boost at all. This works only because I did the cowl hood thing. After running this for almost a year now I can say it's working great and I have the following observations:

1) I did feel a kick in the pants. As I wasn't looking for any boost I don't think this is my mind playing tricks on me. K&N filter, cool air... Whatever.

2) During a water crossing over my headlights last summer this obviously made a difference.

Lastly, sounds pretty cool without being annoying.

Just my 2 cents

Yours is wayy different than the OPs design.
If I might ask, how is it sealed to the hood?

Currently it's not.

Something I'm going to do. I have a sheet of aluminum that I'm going to seal off the cowl section with and have a cut out to mate with the air filter.

It was on the original plan and sitting in my garage since I did this. I test drove when I got to this point and was so happy I moved on to other things.

I have a new engine I'm working on and will definitely get er done then.

Ok, please do when you get it done. I have a feeling yours is more on par with the old "shaker" scoops and six-pack designs. Which is a better option than almost on the ground.

Agreed. I was thinking the same, Lee. More like a shaker. If this could be coupled with a decent vent up top, that diverts water from the filter, and is non-intrusive height wise, but seals on the bottom, this looks to be a seriously viable option. Different, non-intrusive, no hot air contamination, great idea...

Kudos oldguy52 for thinking out of the box, you are on the right path...definitely keep us posted, I would love to see more of this.

BTW, what did you do for your cowl induction hood? Aftermarket or custom?

Been thinking of picking up a hood and just making one myself, for a while now...just curious...
