Aftermarket temperature sensor - good location?
I need to put a temperature sensor somewhere in the coolant for electric cooling fans (to act as a thermostatic switch). The company I ordered the fan kit from gave me a probe that I'm supposed to push in between the fins of the radiator. I'm not really satisfied with this method because it doesn't seem robust and it isn't in direct contact with the coolant. So I picked up another temp sensor (like the stock one the computer reads) with a 3/8" thread and a 1/2" brass T-pipe. The sensor will go in the center of the T and the probe should be immersed in coolant pretty well.
My question is, where is the coolant always flowing on a '99? There's no vacuum-actuated heater core control valve on my XJ, so I assume it is always passing through the heater core. Does that mean I can put this sensor in the hose going to the heater core? Will that be an accurate measure of the coolant temp?

yes it will. Put it in the supply flow for the heater core, which is directly after the stock coolant sensor location in the thermostat housing. Make sure its the supply not the return for an accurate reading.
