Aftermarket keyless entry and remote start

Hey guys, I just got finished installing a keyless entry and remote start (a viper) on my 95 cherokee country. I was wondering if a write-up on how to do it would be useful to anyone. I know most people pay to have it installed, but I didnt feel that was the Jeep way...

Let me know if it would interest anyone and I will finish and post it.

Thanks!

I think there are people that would benefit from it. I know I haven't been able to find a writeup for an XJ yet.

I'd be interested in seeing that write up.

I too would like to see it (years later lol) for the older XJ's. I have a '96 i'm interested in installing a remote start on.

I'd Like to see it for sure. I have a 94 and had given up on the idea of having a remote start as I figured it was too old. Did your jeep have power locks already or did you convert them and install keyless entry?

Not sure if this link will work, but there is a write up on one of the cherokee facebook groups:

I bought an alarm and actuators as mine did not come with power locks, I helped the guy who actually has experience with that because I wanted to learn how to do it but it was A LOT of work having all those wires thru the doors. If i had to do it again I would just pay some one to deal with that.

I used to use the BullDog remotes but have since been using CompuStar. I still hit up the BullDog website as they have ALL of the wiring diagrams for free. Installing a remote start/keyless is simple in the XJ.

This video is also a major help (Metcalf sourced in this vid as well)

I would love one. I know there’s other resources but it’s nice to have it here and be able to ask questions with the person that wrote it. I’ll be installing one on my ‘98 in the next couple weeks.

Which alarm system did you go with and where did you source your actuators? I have a 94 I would like to install power locks with keyless entry on. Remote start would be cool too but I have a manual and don't think I could kick the parking in gear habit!

Well i bought everything in Amazon, i went with the Avital 3100LX alarm system for $29.94, and also got the InstallGear Universal Car Power Door Actuators 4 pack. The actuators are very powerful and came with all the mounting stuff for $13.87. Additional to that i bought the XO power window kit for 2 doors for, $49.99.

I got to tell you that I had someone else to install it for me because it was a loooooooot of work.
