Advice for heavy duty springs, possible small lift (Jeep w/ plow)

Shortly after purchasing the Jeep, I bought a new set of wheels and tires (235/75/15). With the plow on, my wheels slightly rub. I wouldn’t mind throwing a small lift in 1-3”. However I am wondering if anybody has a recommendation on a heavy duty spring that would have the additional clearance I’m looking for. I would like to strengthen the front end to prevent the Jeep from squatting with the plow on. I can’t seem to find any info on the springs included on these small lift kits. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |
When I had a plow on my old Jeep I put front coils out of a 79 F-250 with a 400. Rode like an ox cart but held the plow up nice, think it lifted the front a little if I remember right too.

I think the OEM coil spring rate was 147 Lbs/inch....So you will want something with a higher rate. 180 is probably a good in between. I think Jeep ZJ front coils will work, they are 190 lbs/inch. Maybe someone else will chime in to verify that. If I'm not mistaken they will give you a slight lift (around 3/4"), but cannot be 100% certain without looking it up.....Jeep XJ "upcountry" coils, which might actually be the same as the ZJ coils.
Coils springs from lift kits will have different spring rates depending on manufacturer. Rusty's makes 2 different 3" coils, one is 150 lbs/inch, the other is 180 lbs/inch. Ome 2934 gives about a 2.5" lift with a 180 lbs/inch rate, but are pricey for coils at $160 a pair. |
How long has the plow been on ? I would run as fast as I could to install some frame stiffeners if they haven’t been already . |
I bet any new coil spring would help. PAC makes 2" lift coils that are 200 lbs/in. I have their 250 lb 4" coils. Pretty tough.

I've got Grand Cherokee coils on mine I installed a year ago. Gave me 1-1/4" over the original ones. |
Some new ZJ coils up front should handle that for you.
