Default Add-a-leaf vs leaf spring lift blocks?

Hi I'm new to this forum. I just bought a 97 Cherokee and I would like to do a 3 inch rough country lift and put 31's on it. I noticed that the lift I'm looking at comes with a add-a-leaf for the rear leaf springs. Wouldn't it better to just use a lift block under the stock leaf springs to keep the ride softer in the rear? I won't really be doing any off-roading. Am I missing something? Why not blocks?

Don't use either. The add-a-leaf only keeps its lift if you buy new spring packs along with it or else you'll end up back to no lift after a couple months. Go full leaf lift kit or its not worth lifting.

Blocks cause 'axle wrap' and can lead to broken springs. Also, when the jeep is off camber, more loading and stress is placed on the axle u-bolts.
If I wanted to throw 31's on a stock jeep, I would cut the fenders and install flat flares, align it. Done..
If I was building one, I would do the same with the fenders and upgrade the suspension with a "quality" lift 1.5" or 2" that will offer great performance, such as Old Man Emu.

I just installed the RC 3" lift with add-a-leaf and put 31" tires on. Personally I feel that with lift blocks axle wrap would cause axle u-bolts to break. Longer "lever" kind of idea I guess. I'm planning on installing shackle relocation blocks and shackles if the leafs start to sag and I lose lift. It feels like, with the beefier leaf spring added to the pack, the whole pack is stronger. So far I'm very pleased.

Quick demonstration of why blocks are bad..

1 get 2 pencils.
2 lay 1 on a table and push down on the ends of the pencil. what happened to the pencil.
3 now lay the second pencil on top of the first, like a cross. Push down on the ends of the top pencil. What happened to the top pencil? what would happen if the bottom pencil were taller/fatter?

The pencil you are pushing down on is your springs.

Listen to the wise words spoken here. Don't just hear them, understand them. Blocks can go suck a fat one. AAL's can be done, but why? For the same amount of work and slightly more green you can do it right.

Blocks: Rides like crap, can break your rear suspension (bad)

Add-A-Leaf: Sags after a few months, screws up shackle angle, which makes it ride like crap.

Look into the Zone 3" lift. No need to do this stuff twice!

Thanks for the help guys. I looked into this zone 3 lift and it looks like a good deal. It doesn't come with lower control arms though. Is that a problem for a mall crawler?
