About to gear, have a couple of questions.
When I get my tax return I'll be gearing and doing the bumper/winch. Ive decided to go with 4.10s just to keep it close to stock with 31s. I'll be getting the gearsets and D30 carrier from rustys more than likely. Not going any higher or bigger tires. I want to run the detroit truetrac in the rear, but my diff is 27 spline. They only offer them for 29 splines. Can I just get axles from a junkyard jeep with 29's? Will they work in my 1994 27 spline axle housing or do I need to get the entire differential? And If I change the front axles to the bigger u-joint ones will those axles work in my d30? Or is my best bet to just find a 99 with the HP and get both diffs and re-gear then just do diff swaps?

Yes you can swap a 29 spline carrier and axles in the 8.25. The Dana 30 shafts with the bigger u-joints are a direct swap also.

Going to order gears tomorrow, found a smoking deal on motive kits. idk how long the sale will last , but what ratio? 31s on it now, prob not going any bigger tires on this jeep, but do have winch bumper, winch, roof rack, full size spare, xfer skid and the wheels/tires weigh a ton. and plan on adding gas skid.
4.10s will put it back close to stock, but with the added weight should I go with 4.56? |
Auto or manual trans?

Then 410s would be good. 456 if you have any thoughts in your mind that you want to go 33s down the road.

That’s what I’ve been thinking. I drive it to wheel spots, don’t trailer it at all. And right now with stock gears and 31s it sits 1800 cruising at 55mph. I doubt I’ll ever go 33s because I’d have to go taller lift. And don’t want to do all that. But at the same time I don’t want to run 3k down the highway.
