about to do my 4WD convo
hey guys :] im goin to be putting my 4wd in this week. this past weekend i went to the junkyard and got my trans, trans case, & driveshafts. i gotta go back this weekend to pick up axles. but is there anything else other than the obvious swapping that is involved with the 4wd conversion? anything electrical or tricky? all my parts came from the same year jeep i have so im assuming everything should be kosher. thanks !!!

You dont need to hack up anything to put the tcase linkage in, it all bolts in and you just have to remove the factory covers they put in. You only need the front axle if its the same ratio as the rear. The only thing I didnt figure out on mine was making the 4x4 lights to work, actually didnt try cause I dont need lights to tell me if I'm 4x4.
Advice: keep your 2wd trans in case the JY trans dies on you then you can just swap over the output shaft and tailcone.

I'm not 100% with the AW4, I am 100% with the AX15 but yea the same just different output shaft and tail housing.
Edit: from looking at pics, it seems the AW4 is just like the AX15 where you can do this

AW4 and AX15 are part numbers? WOW i didnt kno tht! thats awesome thanks so much!! so technically i can jus use the parts from the 4WD trans and put them on my 2WD one and its the same thing? or would u recommend doing the entire trans swap and just keeping the 2WD parts for just in case something goes wrong?

AW4 is the 4 speed auto, AX15 is the 6 cly 5speed trans. I recommend just keeping the 2wd just in case
Edit: I'm not sure how easy the auto is but the manual is a no brainer

You posted above you have an auto trans, this would be the AW4. Doing a 4wd conversion with this option you cannot use your old trans... you need a 4wd version of the AW4 which i believe you got from the donor Jeep.
The AX15 is a manual... whole nother ball game swapping that in.
