99 WJ HO in 90 Rennix XJ

ok here is my first tech thread. please don't criticize. and I hope you enjoy

a few months ago, my renix blew up, so I needed a motor. a friend calls me and tells me he has a donar, and to bring my jeep to his house. so when I get there, there is a 99 WJ sitting in his driveway, and he has just about got the engine out.

anyways, we get it out and we realize that the block is completely different, and contrary to how everyone else does it, we were not gonna be able to use anything off my renix. that includes the intake.

so this is where the fun began. we had to remove all the sensors from the renix, and place them into the HO. we had to tap one of the lower bolt holes on the driver side to fit the knock sensor. other than that, all the other sensors were able to go in. next we replaced the WJ flywheel with my xj. this was funny cuz as we were trying to place the engine, and had it in the bay aliugning it with the tranny, we realized that we didn't swap the dust plate....so if you do this, remember to swap the dust plate lol.

we also swapped the injectors from the renix to the HO so that my harness would be compatible. we didn't want to swap the harness and ecu out, so we had to adapt every piece of electronics to fit the ho.....

this is where my ingenuity hit me. I was searching for how to adapt the renix tps to the ho, and I got this very ingenious idea. the little mechanism on the renix throttlebody is a lever, and the HO just has the flat metal bar. so we welded the lever to the bar, did alittle grinding with a dremmel, and spaced the renix tps and bam, a working renix tps on an HO throttlebody. crazy huh?

we also used the distributor from the renix.

anyways, we got it all in and worked out, and we went to start it up and it started......not. about an hour and a half later, and new spark plugs and wires, we discover that all of our spark plug wires were off by 1.....so we start it again. starts, but its misfiring......so we start messing with the timing. another hour and bam, got it! starts up and runs like a dream.

anyways, here are the pics of my experience.

enough room here to fab a mount for my renix ac, and keep the HO ac for onboard air....awesome right?
