Default 99 Jeep Cherokee Sport 5speed Manual what gear ratio

I have a 99 cherokee sport with a 5 speed manual transmission and 4.0 engine. I have 3.07 gears in it now. I plan on installing a RE 3.5 super flex lift with new leafs and 32-11.50-15 tires. what gear ratio should i change to for moderate four wheeling and mud playing. It is a daily driver i plan on installing a lock rite locker in the front diff. I am new to the four wheeling scene so hope this is not to much of a newby question. Thanks Matt

How much are you looking to spend? Cheapest option would be to swap to a 3.55 HPD30/C8.25 from an auto. Otherwise 3.73 would be good for 32s. 4.10s usually for 33s. If you're spending the money on a regear I would probably just shoot for the 4.10s in case you want to go up in tire size in the future.

I would definitely just try to find some axles out if an auto with 3.55s. It will be much cheaper and be alright for 32-33s.

My buddy has a 5 speed on 33s with 3.07s and he stalls in the woods often because the low gears just can't push it. 3.55s would help alot

92-99 axles from an automatic behind a 4.0

Try to find a C8.25 from a 97-99. I believe it is the 29 spline and a bit stronger than the 27 spline 92-96.

Also worth mentioning that you might lose ABS when you swap to a C8.25, unless there is a way around it (I haven't looked into it).

I run the 3.55's in my 5-speed on 33's (just moved up from 32's) and I would suggest going higher. If you're tight on money, it's a great low price alternative, but I do really wish I had 3.73's or 4.10's after all the install work.

Best ones would be a 95-99 HP Dana 30 front and a 97-01 29 spline c8.25 rear. If you could find these on the cheap I would go this route. If you spend the money to regear definitely do 4.10s.

This could be relevant to the OP's question...

I have been searching for a few days off and on....

On the Dana 30's what is the numerically highest ratio that can be used on the same 3.07 carrier?

Forgive me, I know this has been answered before. I have read about it a while ago but can't remember the details and can't for the life of me find the info again.

I am pretty sure 3.55 is the most without replacing the carrier also.......???

Correct. Carriers aren't too expensive though.

Here is some information for you to look over.

If you have the time and junk yards, I recommend you look for axles with 4.10 gears. These are found on Cherokees with the small four cylinder engine and some Cherokees with the Off Highway package.

Depending on where you are, a 4cyl can be hard to find. I looked for those axles for awhile and didn't find any. The ones I did find in junk yards where like $700 for the pair and 3 hours away.
